Come build a traditional Greenland style Qayaq custom fit for you!

Design and build a skin on frame Qayaq with an expert builder while learning how to paddle your new kayak that you will get to take home with you. Parents with children over 6 years old are encouraged to come build a boat with their child to fit them.  Maligiaq builds a boat to fit his young daughter every year.

Maligiaq Padilla is from Sisimiut, Greenland, an Inuit town 50 km above the Arctic Circle on the Davis Strait. Raised by his grandparents, at 12, he built his first qayaq and learned to hunt with it using a harpoon and rifle. Since then he has built more than 300 qayaqs, some of which are in the collection of the Sisimiut Museum of Greenland, the Inuit Gallery of Vancover, and the Smithsonian Museums.
